These were given out each week to the "MVP" player to recognize their efforts.  However, by the end of the season it was pretty easy for the opponent to key in on the guys in the red helmets and this brief tradition was abandoned for future seasons.

This version of the helmet is a flat red color as opposed to the next version which was a little glittery.  It doesn't show in the pictures well, but the paint type is different.

1999-02

I may not have the exact year right, but at some point around 1999 the helmet paint went from flat to sparkly with a glittery red.  Not quite as glittery as the 2003 helmet.  If anyone knows when this paint change occurred for sure please let me know.
